Irresistible Revolution

Here is just a snippet of a book I am currently reading and one I encourage everyone to read at sometime. It is Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne. Its an amazing book from an amazing follower of Jesus. He quotes another person in here by the name of Soren Kierkegaard…

” The matter is quite simple. The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand, we are obliqed to act accordingly. Take any words in the New Testament and forget everything except pledging yourself to act accordingly. My God, you will say, if I do that my whole life will be ruined. How would I ever get on in the world? Herein lies the real place of Christian scholarship. Christian scholarship is the Church’s prodigious invention to defend itself against the Bible, to ensure that we can continue to be good Christian’s without the Bible coming too close. Oh, priceless scholarship, what would we do without you? Dreadful it is to fall into the hands of the living God. Yes, it is even dreadful to be alone with the New Testament.”

Finally College

I go to Valencia Community College. I am done with my two years there…which in fact is a grea place to start…the commercials are right. But anyway, I needed to look for a college to go to to finish my 4 years at college and I have recently been accepted by Union University in Jackson, Tennessee! Whew, I thought I wouldn’t be able to get into one because of so much stuff. But it finally happened! I know for some people it is nothing to get into college, I know some people got into their college the first try and it was something like UF or something. I dont have the greatest SAT scores to get into preschool, but I finally made it to a school. Not on my own abilities though. No way Jose. But I am so thankful to the One above to give me this oppurtunity to get out of Florida and experience His love and grace from a different state of view….haha get it? But it is such a blessing! It thundered a whole lot last night. Lighting filled my room. Very pretty. Well I will try and keep up to date with what is going on. Over and out.

Lacrosse and Jesus

Well I played my first lacrosse game yesterday night in about 2 1/2 years, maybe more. It was exciting. Its kind of funny how I come from playing lacrosse against other college kids to watching a 9 month old and holding him while he sleeps. Its on exact opposite sides of the spectrum. Its funny how that spectrum extends into the following of Jesus. Jesus cleared the temple when people were selling animals and such and then not too far away he is touching the lame with the softest touch they have ever felt. I wonder what the hands of Christ feel like. Are they soft and smooth, or rough and leathery? Am I able to find that out in heaven? I hope.

Family

This past weekend I have had the great opportunity to spend time with Sarah’s family. I mean the whole family. 11 people. Geesh. Anyway, some came from miami some from california and georgia. They came to see a graduation of Sarah’s brother. I never liked graduations…not even my own. Its boring. Yeah its a great time to get together and walk across a stage that has really no significance at all, it just goes right back stuffed somewhere in a closet and the decorations get shoved back into a box and placed inside a room of storage on the campus of West Orange. There is no power in that stage, or even that microphone. The hat, the gown, the tassel they all fade in color and get eaten by moths. They are destroyed by the conditions of this world. And the speeches! Some good some bad. One thing in common. Long. Its not that I don’t care to listen or to try and let it penetrate my skull, but I see some of them as a show. How can I impress my listeners and show how smart I am. Well at least to me that is how it seems. Yeah yeah, jealously…maybe. But there are many good things that happen on that day. It was a good day. Sometimes I make sense, sometimes I don’t.
